Outdoor family photography is the perfect way to celebrate the ones you love. And there is no end to the amazing and varied locations available across Melbourne. From beach to forest, we really do have it all.

This beautiful family wanted to have their photos outside for a very special reason. You see, this was baby Spencer’s late grandmothers favourite place to visit. She used to come here to relax, walk and take in the magnificent views. It was her happy place.

Sadly, Spencer’s grandmother never had the opportunity to meet him, which made this location even more significant on the day.

So, why five hearts, you might ask.

Well hearts are not always something that you can see and this shoot was definitely something a little extra special. And while the reason for booking this family photography session may seem obvious. Two doting Dad’s and a gorgeous round cheeked little man to celebrate the fulfilment of their family. There was one other extremely heartfelt reason why we were brought together on this occasion.

Not only were we there to document the love that this family shares, but also to pay tribute to, and symbolise, a little heart that was missing – Spencer’s twin sister, Hazel.

This was one of the most honest, loving and emotive sessions I have ever had the honour of capturing, and a couple of the images in particular still give me a spine tingle when I look at them.

In beautiful little baby Hazel’s honour we incorporated her pink unicorn rattle, which you will see Spencer gnawing on, and a tiny white felted heart.  The blanket belonged to Spencer’s grandmother.

These words are for you Baby Hazel – love and light little one.

Furled together our bodies grew, your heartbeat I heard as my own.
It wasn’t your time to be on this earth, but as my sister you’ll always be known.
