Golden hour beach family photos with the Oakman Family. Beautiful light, gorgeous kiddos and glowy beach vibes set the scene for this family photography session.

The number one thing that parents worry about most with sunset sessions, especially in Summer is – will my children behave?

Due to daylight savings these sessions are often held quite late in the evening. Normally after most children’s regular bedtime.

But after photographing hundreds of families, there are two things I know:

  • Kids love the novelty of being out after bedtime.
  • And one late night or disrupted routine, will not ruin them.

There are a few things you can do to be prepared though. For younger kids try to wear them out and encourage an afternoon nap and pop them in the car and take the scenic route to your session. This way they might fall asleep in the car.

Bring snacks. But never show them until we really need them.

Make sure they are warm enough, it can be windy and colder than expected, especially for little ones.

And lastly, don’t underestimate the power of a bribe!
